From Gao’s statement: “What is home? Most people have some sort of answer to that question. Home can be a place, a time, a person—it is however and whatever way people center themselves. It is a foundation of their self-conception and their relation to the world around them. But the idea of home depends on a number of cultural, sociological, familial, and personal premises—all of which may differ from person to person. Once examined, the notion of “home” explodes into a web of assumptions and complications.”
