PRESTON DRUM ’16 / MAKER MEETS MADE

February 3, 2015

Since the year 2005 North Carolina native, Preston Drum ’16, has been painting on old photographs, junk mail, and scraps of paper. These works, referred to as POSTCARD paintings, primarily because of their size and shape have assumed many forms including portraiture, landscape and still life. Through this image making process, Preston has wrestled with a wide range of issues from the lack of content on television this evening to the implications of Hydraulic Fracturing on the environment. MAKER MEETS MADE is an in depth exploration of Preston’s decade long commitment to the POSTCARD painting format. Close to 1000 of his POSTCARD paintings from the past ten years are on display alongside a recreation of his studio. The show is on display now through February 8th in MCAD GALLERY 148.
