TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

What is the place of design education in a world of information, where the very idea of design is perpetually morphing, subject to new trends and technologies disseminated instantaneously through the web? Despite this apparent challenge to simple formulation, design must always remain a form of critical address and a visual methodology that is based in research and production. Design education must therefore aim to deliver a foundational base of knowledge and skills in the areas of creative problem-solving and visual communication as well as address its expanding place in society by cultivating inter-disciplinary exchange and collaboration as a crucial element of the practice. The latter is becoming more and more relevant as design continues to diversify its methods and points of contact with areas traditionally outside of its milieu.
