BIO 

Roshan Ganu is a multimedia artist originally from Goa, presently based in Minneapolis. Her work is an ongoing conceptual, technical and spatial exploration of moving image collage. She creates spaces that mesmerise, incite curiosity and welcome a sense of belonging within the viewer. Initiated from an autobiographical space, she explores the poignant state of our human condition through visual poetry, theatrical strategies and the Marathi narrative medium.

Ganu is presently a Jerome Foundation Fellow 2022-23. Her multimedia work has been featured at the MDW Art Fair in Chicago, Franconia Sculpture Park, Twin Cities Fashion Week among others. She has been the recipient of grants and projects from the Metropolitan Regional arts Council, Minnesota Opera, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Springboard for the Arts to name a few. She concluded her Fall 2022 artist residency at Soo Visual Arts Center with a culminating solo exhibition, and was a 2021-22 artist-in-residence at Second Shift Studio Space in St. Paul. Ganu has taught in classrooms in Goa- India, Versailles-France and is currently a Foundation Studies Professor at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

My mentorship philosophy follows a mantra: Say More Yes’s and Ask Good Questions. As an alum of the MCAD MFA program myself, I understand the radical openness the program brings to a student’s practice. I will encourage you to engage in thorough research and open experimentation while going through this transformative experience. Personally, I love grounding myself in the local art scene and probing the national and international art worlds. As a mentor I wish to bring this mix of discipline, exploration and play to our working process.

I am curious about the questions you will investigate in your artistic process. No matter the path(s) you choose, I will be your guide and confidante. As a research based artist in my own practice, I am committed to Eastern, South Asian philosophies at par with the Western ones and I look forward to extending this sensibility to the mentee-mentor studio conversations. Before Minneapolis, I have worked in the field of French linguistics, cultural exchange, translation, journalism and taught in different cities in India, France and now in the United States. I also speak 6 languages. These trans-disciplinary, multilingual, global experiences continue to inform my teaching philosophy and artistic practice.
