BIO

Patrick Price is a sculptor, interdisciplinary artist, and educator based in St. Paul, Minnesota. His work emerges as photographic images, sculptural objects and installations that investigate the boundaries of the structures humans build in the environment and structures built within the mind. In Patrick’s work, sculptural objects are fabricated from a wide range of materials including epoxy and urethane resins, fiberglass, foam, concrete, wood and natural ephemera, and are recontextualized in different environments and spaces, creating new and exciting relationships. Inspiration for his work span broad topics including ancient history, archaeology, language and semiotics, physics, psychology, and sociology, but circle around the question “Where do we come from, and where are we going?” Patrick earned his BFA in applied design at UW-Oshkosh and His MFA in Sculpture at Colorado State University and has exhibited nationally and internationally.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

My teaching philosophy is centered on honesty and trust. Since the artistic process is so deeply personal, I believe in order for real development and growth to occur, sensitive but honest communication is key. In my own experience as educator and life-long learner, the most meaningful work comes from engaging with topics or parts of myself that are sometimes difficult or outside of my comfort zone. To navigate these areas one must be willing to allow oneself to be vulnerable, which can be hard, but I believe that this allows for a deeper and more human connection, which emerges in the work. I think one of the hardest things to do in the artistic process is to hear criticism, but for me, can provide the perspective and insight to realize resolved and successful work.
