BIO

Hallie Bahn is an animator and interdisciplinary artist who works in non-traditional and expanded animation. Her work uses a blend of stop motion, digital 2D, and rotoscoped animation to reimagine the relationship between the set and the film. Through miniature tableaus and projected animation, Hallie constructs narrative sculptures which examine cultural scripts as they intersect with gender.

Born and raised in NYC, Hallie moved to Minneapolis in 2017 to receive her MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Bahn’s work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally, including at Public Functionary in Minneapolis, Marinaro Gallery in New York, the 2021 Square Lake Film Festival Portal ii Program, the 2019 Feminist Border Arts Film Festival in New Mexico, the 2018 Todos Somos Otros Festival in Mexico City, and the 2018 Chaniartoon Festival in Greece. In 2020, she was a grant recipient of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Next Step Fund.

Hallie currently teaches animation at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and at the University of Minnesota.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & MENTORSHIP

My goals as an educator are to guide students toward forming the habits and discourse needed to remain life-long learners within their discipline and conscientious stewards of their artistic communities. I prioritize reflection, curiosity, and experimentation while working with students to stay accountable to their own artistic and personal goals..
