Emmett Ramstad / Jerome Fellowship

January 23, 2017

This fall, alum Emmett Ramstad ’07 was awarded the Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists. The Jerome Foundation “seeks to contribute to a dynamic and evolving culture by supporting the creation, development, and production of new works by emerging artists.”

Ramstad’s work, focusing “on mundane objects and the highly individualized, personal routines that surround them” was shown in the MCAD Main Gallery from October 7 to November 8, 2016. “By reimagining ritualized gestures into large, participatory and public installations—such as inviting gallery visitors to experience certain bathroom modifications or to talk to one another in public calling booths—he draws attention to issues surrounding privacy, safety, and domesticity.”

Currently living and working in Minneapolis, Ramstad has exhibited work throughout the United States as well as Amsterdam and Istanbul, including solo exhibitions at Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Rochester Art Center.
