Thanks for being a part of the MFA program! Can you tell us a little bit about your creative practice?

Thank you! I am a Minneapolis-based photographer and installation artist. I use images, text, and objects to address the interconnected relationship embedded in using landscape elements as metaphors to depict our human stories and how these depictions shape our ideas of our surroundings. I am particularly interested in how the methods we use to share stories, from fairy tales to social media, impact our collective understanding of the natural world.

What do you enjoy most about being a mentor?

What I have enjoyed most as a mentor this past year was seeing Shoshana’s work evolve so beautifully. What a privilege it is to hear the ideas, see the very first attempts, the hits and the misses, and then see it start to come together. I can’t wait to see where it goes next!

What are your goals as a mentor?

My hope is that I can be of help. For me, grad school went by in a blink. It can be intense and at times overwhelming. My goal is to be a safe sounding board. Also, the art world is full of challenges.  I hope that I can impart some wisdom on how to keep a healthy perspective while navigating the ups and downs so Shoshana can leave the program equipped with what she needs to maintain a sustainable, life-long creative practice.
