Over that past few years, the MCAD MFA Program has been focused on addressing systemic racism throughout our program. Director Ellen Mueller has received a great deal of invaluable feedback from the MFA alumni over the past several months (you may have seen her letter from this past summer outlining recent and future undertakings). Additionally, MCAD as a whole is also taking further steps to support diversity, equity, and inclusion at our institution.

For example, on November 11 at 6pm, MCAD is hosting a virtual conversation with internationally- recognized design leaders Joseph Kunkel, Liz Ogbu, and Greg Hoffman ’92 for a conversation about racism and inequity in the design field. The Race and Design Lecture Series is sponsored in part by Target.

Within the MFA Program, we are excited to announce that the MCAD MFA program is going to begin fundraising for an endowed Black, Indigenous, and People of Color scholarship fund to support future MFA students. Our goal is to raise $26,500 over the next two years.

To move us towards this effort, we would like to take full advantage of the 2020 MCAD Art Sale moving online by asking participating MFA alumni if they would donate 100% of the sale of one or more of their works to this new MFA Black, Indigenous, and People of Color endowed scholarship fund. We will note this generous donation status on the website with their pieces.

If you’re in the market for some new art, please be sure to search for the works marked for donation!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ellen Mueller at emueller@mcad.edu.
