Sharon Butler / Roundtable – Studio Visits – Lectures

The MFA community had the honor of engaging in multiple events with painter and arts writer, Sharon Butler. The Fine Arts Department at MCAD and MFA mentor, Sharon Louden arranged to bring Butler to Minneapolis and very generous carved out a significant portion of her time to come and participate in a parade of activities with our department. She spoke on MCAD’s main campus, the Burnet Gallery downtown and engaged with students in a roundtable setting as well as a few studio visits.

Butler is widely known as the publisher of the influential art blog Two Coats of Paint, which has been sponsored by numerous arts organizations, including The Brooklyn Museum, The Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum, New York Studio School, the School of Visual Arts, Creative Capital, and the Warhol Foundation.  Frequently sought after as a visiting artist/critic, her visits and affiliations have included Cornell University, Brown University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the School of Visual Arts, Parsons The New School, and currently, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

She exhibits regularly, including 2013/14 shows at NADA New York with SEASON (Seattle, WA), Makebish, Lesley Heller, the Painting Center, Pocket Utopia, (all New York, NY), Storefront Ten Eyck, Theodore:Art, Norte Maar (all in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY), Parallel Art Space (Queens, NY), Union College (Schenectady, NY), SUNY Westchester (Valhalla, NY), George Lawson (San Francisco, CA), and the Islip Art Museum (East Islip, NY).
