This October, MCAD’s Gallery 148 hosted second-year Rachel Jennings’ work Bibleistic Dope. The show was the culmination of several months of work, during which she researched, sketched, observed and constructed. Bibleistic Dope is a murky landscape of altars, rotting peaches, fibers, found objects, charcoal compositions, and mixed media sculptures.
In creating these works, the artist is grappling with notions of old-fashioned faith and the construction of personal identity. In Rachel’s own words, it is “A theologically thick, liquid grounding. Bibleistic Dope explores the notion of a reckoning with oneself; coming to terms with the actual self, as opposed to whom one convinces themselves they are.”
The show ran from October 17th through October 30th.
