MFA Fall Exhibition / APOPTOSIS 2016

September 30, 2016

This September, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Master of Fine Arts program hosted our annual student-run fall exhibition. The event was held at our spacious new gallery space on Stevens Avenue, right up the street from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and MCAD’s main campus.

The exhibition, APOPTOSIS 2016, showcased the work of first and second year MCAD MFA students. Presenting a variety of disciplines including photography, painting, animation, printmaking, illustration, sculpture, and graphic design, the exhibition featured work by 32 artists and designers.

Also featuring food, drinks, and tunes spun by interdisciplinary & sculpture alum Preston Drum ’16, our building was full of creative minds and good cheer, and the show was a resounding success!

AP·OP·TO·SIS

apəpˈtōsəs/

1. the death of cells that occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism’s growth; a biological imperative that may just as quickly lead to disaster if unchecked. What forces in our own lives support, regulate or actively alter an existence, and to what end?

APOPTOSIS calls to question the myriad processes in life that may sustain or terminate—simultaneously minuscule and monolithic, routine and ludicrous—on a near-imperceptible level. Rather, imperceptible until one begins to look.
