First-year painter Erin Sandsmark was selected to display her piece “Self 2” at the Strange Girls Never Die exhibition this month in Northeast Minneapolis. Erin’s work explores expressive portraiture, centering recently on her own naked body. She incorporates feminist themes of body image and social perspectives while sharing her figure openly and honestly.

Strange Girls is an umbrella term that originally referred to tattooed women, bearded ladies, and other perceived feminine oddities. The show is an exploration of Strange Girls and the myriad of ways they manifest, perform and live within this role. It also explores and supports a variety of ideas of gender identity and expression.

Strange Girls Never Die features an eclectic mix of paintings, illustrations, photography, prints, and sculpture, and includes work from 25 artists from all across the country. It runs from November 7 to December 3rd, 2015 at CO Exhibitions.
