Amber Newman / 2016 Thesis Candidate

April 28, 2016

Amber Newman is interested in the phenomenon of images naturally becoming the face of movements, but she is also interested in the way technology and the Internet has increased global awareness of serious situations with videos, sound recordings, and still images.

She uses graphic design and new technologies as a way to critique these images as a spectacle and a form of entertainment through constant sharing. Her work becomes a portal for her to discuss other issues of racial identity, national identity, globalization, and how the presence of the Internet informs these ideas. Through sharing images and forming user-generated content, I begin to question different levels of power dynamics as well as the tools we use to get this knowledge faster.

Be sure to join us on Friday, May 13th at our new MFA Graduate Studios to enjoy Amber’s thesis work along with the other 2016 graduates.
